MFCA Firefighter Jim McCoy is being highlighted for the month of December.
Jim joined the Merion Fire Company in September of 1985. In January of 1991, he was elected Assistant Chief of the company; a position he held until March of 2005, when he returned back to the rank of firefighter. In those many years of holding the position of Assistant Chief, he held several titles, including station training officer and driver training officer. He was also a member of the new building committee in 1997, and served on the new apparatus committees that purchased the last engine and ladder.
In 1999, Jim was approached by then Township Chief Fire Officer, Harry Knorr to head up a department training committee. Jim brought a hope and ambition of national training to the members of the Township. With the help of the Lower Merion Relief Association and the Norristown Fire department, over 10 training session were conducted in the Township and on the grounds of Norristown State hospital.
In 2005, Jim left his family owned business that he ran for over twenty years to assume the role of Deputy Fire Marshal for the Township of Lower Merion. Jim serves on the Township’s Recruitment & Retention and Radio committees. Jim was appointed a member on the Montgomery County Incident Support Team in 2006.
When he gets away from both work and the fire house, he enjoys traveling with his wife, family time and golfing. Jim and Nancy were married in July of 1990, and have two kids, Kelly (14) and Matt (11).
